Dr Idris is a distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medical Radiography at Bayero University, Kano, with an extensive academic and professional background in medical imaging. He began his career at the former School of Radiography, Lagos, where he earned a Diploma in Radiography (DIR). He subsequently advanced his education at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Cape Town, South Africa, obtaining Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Radiography. In addition, he holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Radiography from the University of Malta.
Dr. Idris has further strengthened his expertise through specialised professional certifications, including Nuclear Medicine Imaging (FNMI) under the IAEA-CPUT Fellowship Programme, Computed Tomography (CT) certification from the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), and Radiation Protection training through a World Health Organisation (WHO) programme.
An active scholar, Dr Idris has contributed significantly to the body of knowledge in radiography, with scholarly publications, particularly in the area of radiation dose optimisation. Alongside his academic role, he remains actively engaged in clinical practice as a radiographer and has led notable reforms in CT practice at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary healthcare institutions.
Dr. Idris has also demonstrated strong leadership in academia and clinical administration, having served in key roles such as Head of Department (HoD), Deputy Dean (DD), and Honourary Deputy Director in clinical practice. With his wealth of experience in education, research, and clinical service, he is well-positioned to drive innovation and strengthen the radiography profession in Nigeria and beyond.
